make it likely that the disciples’ question here applies as much to present spiritual or ecclesiastical rank as to future kingdom status (so, similarly, Gundry, 359; contrast Marguerat, 431; Sand, 365, and particularly Thompson, 75–76). 18:2 Jesus often uses pictures to convey his message. Here he uses a living child. We cannot tell whether the child is a little boy or a little girl because the Greek word is a neuter noun (cf. Beare, 375).
